What are the benefits?
The main upside is that you get to be the designer of your flight needs. Do you need to stop en route to your destination to receive some other passengers? Very easy, not if you book everything carefully in advance.
There might be lots of scheduled flights in existence but they're all rigid in nature. You can't ask the airline to put the flight back for an hour because it would suit you better if they did.
There is also the nature of the flight itself. If you have ever flown somewhere with small children belonging to someone else sitting just next to you for the entire flight, you'll realize just how frustrating it can be. Arriving tired is one thing but arriving stressed out and annoyed through no fault of your own is quite another.
Now just imagine planning a group get together or holiday and being able to share the plane just with those people you are actually going on vacation with. Wouldn't that be the perfect way to start a trip together? It provides you with all time to start chatting and talking the delights of the trip ahead - and you can also look forward to resting and catching a nap without any problems en route if you need to.
